Quick Info: What is Rack Plating?

The rack plating method is a process used for big, complex, or fragile parts and is superb for producing selective deposits. During the rack plating method, parts are persisted a “rack” that’s then submersed within the plating solution. Metal hooks or bands are wont to hold the parts in situ also as provide the required contact . Because this plating is labor intensive, rack plating usually costs quite the barrel plating method.

Electroplating is performed on parts with complex geometry that need unique finishing. to realize this while reducing time and price , one can use rack plating since rack plating can hold multiple parts, as against submerging individual parts during a bath. The fixture or jig is metallic in nature, in order that rack plating provides an entire voltaic cell circuit for electroplating. Screws, wires and pins are wont to provide the smallest amount contact to supply current for the rack plating process, providing high-quality finishing for intricate contours and delicate parts.

During the rack plating process, scratches and damage are avoided by spacing the parts well on the jig. However, rack plating is often a labor-intensive and expensive method, because it takes time to hold the parts. Therefore, if the parts aren’t fit undergo barrel plating, the sole forthright solution would be to choose rack plating. it’s common in zinc and aluminum electroplating, likewise, nickel and chrome are the foremost used plating solutions during this process. Before deciding on rack plating method, one should consider the form, quantity and size of the parts.
